I've been keeping track of this golden wrench crap for a while.

Info I've gathered;
Each day until thursday, 25 golden wrenches are going to be released into the crafting system.
To get a golden wrench, any craft will do and you might randomly get one. Smelting and combining metal has been disabled so it wouldn't be abused.
After 25 wrenches have been found for that day, new info for the update will be released.
On thursday, once all wrenches have been found, the update will go live.
After that, wrenches will still be found but can be destroyed (No info on how yet). Those 100 that found them will be able to keep them forever.

I'll continue surfing the wiki and wading through the cesspool that is the TF2 forums for more info.

DF and a few others have the wrench algorithm down pat. Basically, every minute, a 1/60 "die" is thrown. If it fails, nothing happens. If it's a success, a golden wrench is dropped into the system and the next person to craft will get a wrench. BUT, the wrenches have a habit of dropping 54m to 1h6m after the last wrench was dropped. If you craft when this time period, you have about a 50% chance. Then again, you also have a 50% chance in the rest of that rough hour. Hell, 2 can drop in a row but it's still rather consistent. I suggest crafting in the early morning, when no one else is one to increase your chances.

That's actually very interesting. Not that I'm gonna bother to try crafting just to get one.

Neither am I. I just want people to exploit this so the update comes faster.

With my luck, I'd probably only get this if I were trying to craft a hat. A hat I wanted.

I just want the update to go live.

Pretty much.

And someone actually made a crack that gets you a golden wrench. It also probably logs your account info for someone to steal but you know.

I for one recommend you play the game NOW before the update goes live, and you can't get a server without teams of Engineers.
