| (Otherwise known as 'Schem alliterates entirely by mistake'. I feel like V now.)
Anyway. I felt like making a thread dedicated to those of us who like the FFs other than eight, ten, six and, of course, seven. More recently thirteen may count. (Wait, others exist?)
I'm tired of the arguments of whether Kefka or Sephiroth is cooler (it's Kefka), so why don't we move on and argue whether Kuja or VAYNE is cooler?
I personally have IX and XII as my favourites. What about you guys?
(Case in point, my icon at the time of post- editing is the leading man himself. Of course. Which is odd since I slightly prefer the twins and Vossler.)

| Oh yeah. Tactics is great. Haven't played six, I have it emulated somewhere, and nine is... maybe it's the nostalgia factor, but I love it to pieces.
As for the combat, I despised it but grew to quite like it, especially when it's active and not wait. What's your particular beef with it?

| It kinda felt less interactive than turn based menu commands.
though random battles are awful too, so XII wasn't that awful for me.

| Yeah. Random battles do have that whoosh WHOAH! effect but it gets extremely tedious when all you want to do is find a damn save point. FFXII's system... hmm. It depends. I set my gambits to do the legwork but mostly input things by myself. You can turn them right off and it behaves like a turn based, though. That's what inititally annoyed me, you think you should be able to dodge... I just got used to it - it's basically turn based, it just looks nicer and is more streamlined. It's by no means perfect, but it's one of the better ones. I can see why people hate it though, god yes. | |

| At times the battles in 12 were good, and could get pretty hectic. But when you can set up gambits to do nearly all the work for you, grinding became incredibly boring. And thats a problem for someone who likes to have all his party at the same level.
13 started off crap, got good when you could start paradigm shifting, then got bad after about 6 hours of pretty much nothing interesting happening, then gets good again later... though Im still yet to to get to the 3rd disc. <_<
V is my favourite though, boy I loved those jobs.

| ...Now that I never understood. Don't like gambits determining everything? Turn 'em off. Easy. Or set only basic attack/healing gambits like I do. Get it to handle the tedious stuff and do the rest. If you don't like the battle system, chances are it REALLY isn't for you or you're handling it wrong.
...Hectic battles scare me because I play on active. ;3;

| I like 3 and 4. I've heard 6 is good but have yet to play it. I have also not played a single FF since 7 =P Old school ftw. |

FF1gba was the best. :I this game is for babies and is so easy to over-level. but I think rpg's are supposed to be more about planning your team and their strategy before you went into big fights, but most people level and ruin the experience for themselves because it doesn't apply if you are so strong. Or the creators make the game too easy and you have a similar situation.

But I love RPgs and levelling more than skill based, so it's a price I'm willing to pay. SMT makes it so hard to level that it's barely worth it. As for never playing 'em. Well it's one of those things you have to try, like LotR and Harry Potter. It's cultural more than anything - just so you know what t'fuss is about. They're by no means perfect, but they're high quality.

| V is one I must try. I think I have it emulated.
That said for not too engaging... that can be true. But yesterday I was having some trouble with gambits on with the active function, absolutely mental that was. :/ Esper. It's a thing with FF that casual fights get tedious quickly. xD

| If you can't stand tedious fights then FF would be torture. | |

| FFXI was my First Final Fantasy, first MMO... It's probably the most hated game in the series, but it was my one, true love. Until I got into the FFXIV beta. | |

| My opinions of all the final fantasy's (Not mentioning 6,7,8,X of course)
My order is as follows: 8. X-II <- Stupid job system 7. XII <- Bad Battle Mechanics (Dont let me walk around if i cant even dodge) 6. II <- Just too old to get into for me. Tried the PSP ones couldnt get into those either. 5. I <- Same as II. 4. V <- Finished it but honestly the story hardly stands out in my mind. 3. IX<- Didnt actually beat the last disc but yeah was pretty boring if ya ask me. 2. III <- Good remake for DS, wouldnt play again tho. 1. IV <- Awesome easily one of my favourite fantasy's.
