Well I gave it a shot, just added in two extra frames where I thought the motion just seemed too disconnected, and while he runs slower it's a little bit smoother, imo. I would tinker with it more to perfect what I was going for or maintain the speed before, but I don't have the time right now, maybe later.

Sweet, FG's link is broken so that means I can swoop in and not have him upstage me! Happy

Here's what I came up with. Essentially I just added a passing position, but doubled the length of your movie clip because you need a different frame as the back foot is passing vs. the front foot. I also put the feet contacts on slightly different levels to give it a touch more dimension. As you can see, it goes by pretty quickly still, but I think it still reads as a run.

What would make it really read well is if the front leg/knee came OVER the body when it bends to go forward, but I didn't do that because that would change the character a bit, and I didn't know how much change you wanted to have this work. If you did want to try that, I can show you what I mean (if you didn't understand that part I just said, which I think was rather confusing as it was written).

For all that is good and holy, though, work on different layers!!! Lol, I had to keep separating things as I went. If you put the shoes and legs on different layers, it's easier to go back and make changes. And with animation, it's all ABOUT going back and fixing things after you do them. That's what distinguishes the good from the average. (I've learned, finally...)

Wow! Thanks JKR - that just looks so right now! Grin
I feel pretty bad now for thinking it wasn't possible Tongue

If it's alright, could you send me the .fla? It'd be great to use that as a basis for future animations as well.
It'd be nice not having to worry about running animations for once! ROFL

Hey, come on now! I want to see. Regardless of what you think, we might all learn something from your version we'd never see otherwise. Every animation by different people help everyone else evolve. Actually my version is still not quite right. It needs a frame taken away from the "full stride" pose and put into the passing position. It would make it clearer, I see that now.

And I can certainly post the FLA. Actually, I meant to and then forgot. I'll go get it off the other computer after lunch.

One suggestion, though! Take the FLA, even use it for Edmund if you'd like. But if you need a run cycle for another character, do that run cycle yourself. And every character forward. Each should have their own variation and unique timing/look. By doing that, you'll get a level of practice than no amount of study or someone helping you could ever give you. Analyze what I did there, but then use the principals instead of just the actual images. Even just redrawing exactly what I did but in your own hand will help. Trust me on this one, it will benefit you like crazy in the long run. Happy

EDIT: Doh, it turns out I already uploaded the file and everything, I just forgot I did. Geez... This is what animating nearly 24/7 does to you. Beware!!! :P

Well I only put about a minute's work in before I realized what I wanted to do would take up more time than I expected. It was meant more as an example than the full-on retooling you did.

Here it is anyway. Like I said before, I just added in a frame wherever the flow seemed, well, to not flow.

^that's a link, btw

Yeah! Actually I did the same thing too, lol! Then I must have had the same realization you did, but instead of stopping I just started over and tried again. Your second one probably would have been the same as the one above.

Really? I saved it as a Flash 8 file... Weird.

I'll try it again.

I hate to be more of a pain if you have already uploaded it again - but I've got it fixed Grin
Thanks JKR!
I totally see what you've done now - hopefully my future running anims will look as nifty as this one Wink

Ah good, glad it worked. I didn't reupload it yet, so no problem.

Can't wait to see more stuff when you have it!

Good stuff. Animation is really smooth and the voice acting is great.

Although it probably wasn't a good idea to upload around Halloween. Lotta competition Nervous

You're sitting pretty at 3.61 right now, but honestly it should be higher. This is an awesome cartoon short. People on Newgrounds are hosers these days. I don't understand why so much quality stuff is voted so low. And there's a lot of garbage that hits 4.10. Weird.

A lot of people, it seems, vote super low on everything that isn't their animation when they upload it to try and win an award or something. And get other people to do that too. Grumble...
