PostSubject: Poker Night at the Inventory   Thu Nov 04, 2010 4:49 pm

Might as well make a thread for this. This game is awesome for many reasons.

1. Poker
2. Heavy
3. Strong Bad
4. Low system requirements
5. TF2 UNLAWKS
6. $5 for the game
7. Max
8. All of the characters having conversations.

Coming later this month from Telltale.

You're saying that as if it's a bad thing?
I might get this around Christmas I suppose. No sense in buying it now for a silly hat, and a massive saving of like, 30 cent.

Poker is a damn fun video game when done right and since I don't expect Telltale to screw things up, it should be fun.

Poker is much more fun in real life when there is more yelling and accusing. I play full contact poker, usually with some pretty on the fly rules. Soooo poker online or on the computer isn't even close to as fun.

I was pretty excited about this even before the TF2 items were announced. I'm a big fan of TF2 (obviously), Homestar, and Sam & Max (I read Penny Arcade every now and again). I like the characters enough that I'd pay 5 bucks just to watch a movie of them playing poker.

When this game was announced, I crap my pants. dick the TF2 items. Then again, this game wouldn't sell nearly as well without them.

I'll probably get this some day. Just for kicks.

Now to rant in an overly negative manner, which is precursored by the fact that I will buy this game anyway:

I hate Tyco's voice. Blah. Awful. Also his animation is terrible. He's a comic character, so his 3D model just doesn't translate well from 2D. Want to do this right? Animate him in 2D ala Roger Rabbit. Don't make it a ruddy 3D model. Ick. Max should have stayed 2D where he belonged too. It's also a crying shame that such a huge collection of characters come along to star in a game together and the Chapman Brothers threw Homestar away and didn't look back. Kind of pisses me off, to be honest. They had a huge, HUGE fan following and they just flushed it down the toilet without a single word as to why. That was a jerk move.

Okay, rant achieved, back to happy land. I'm looking forward to a solid poker game starring characters I love.

Didn't they stop making Homestar cartoons because one of their wives had a child or something?
And besides, Tycho's voice and animation is just fine. Trying to animate 3D things in a 2D game would just be fucking annoying. Yeah, it's grand for movies, but for Games, not so much. Besides, the Penny Arcade guys already had a game.

Well of course it is funner in person, but it is still fun in a video game when done right.

And I'll order this as soon as I get money my sister owes me.

It's a POKER game. We're not talking action platformer here. Animating it in 2D would be easy, it's a POKER game.

And they stopped the Homestar cartoons last year because one of them had a baby, but the discouraging thing is the total lack of any sort of communication for a year. If there's no time for new website updates (which I highly doubt, because a Marzipan Answering Machine or Teen Girl Squad would take about 8 hours max) then the least we could get is a "Homestar is on Hiatus for now" button or something. It's miserable showing up every Monday and being let down, and they're really injuring their reputations doing what they are doing.

It's never a smart idea to burn bridges.

Whatever. One of them is writing a movie and from what I hear hardly ever around the house, so it isn't like they're both sitting at home doing nothing but watching the baby. Kind of irresponsible to let an empire like they built die. That kid could have gone to any college they felt like with the money they made from Homestar. Instead, they ditched it.

They money from merch and advertising, and royalties from the games. They don't need to update.

You guys are missing the point.

They should at least NOTIFY AHEAD OF TIME WHEN SOMETHING IS CLOSING, SO THEY CAN SAVE THE THINGS FROM THE WEBSITE TO HELP KEEP MEMORIES OF IT AND NOT LET PAGES AND PAGES OF DATA TO NOT BE GONE FOREVER.

It has no multiplayer?
Well, I'm not buying it then.

I figured it'd be worth it to have a laugh with friends in at least, but no multiplayer in a poker game? It's cheaper to buy a deck of cards and do impressions of the characters yourself in that case...

Wait, really? How do you release a poker game these days without multiplayer?

Wait, you play just against the computer? So... it's a video poker machine essentially?

Guys, it's not $5 for TF2 items or a poker machine. It's $5 for playing along with some of the best characters video games has to offer whilst they banter with each other (and you), as well as tell interesting stories. For instance, did you know the Heavy's favorite movies are The Dirty Dozen and the first 20 minutes of Rocky IV? And that Tycho SERIOUSLY hates Strongbad? Seriously, this game is worth $5. Telltale never disappoints... except with their Monkey Island games, but that's just me.

Also, the Automata table is the best table.
