| OK, so you know how JKR closed the old FtM forum due to him not having time to patrol it and such? Well, two days ago, I had an idea and I asked JKR about it on his blog. - Papytendo the Tea Girl two days ago wrote:

He's giving it thought, but so far it WOULD be a new forum, similar to here but linked to FtM and more structured. It has not been decided on yet though, but what I wanted to know is what you guys think about it, and maybe some suggestions. That said IF it gets approved and IF we decide to go through with it.

| I 100% approve. This place has gotten pretty dry, and a fresh start would be great.
Although I don't see how what you described would be any different to what we have now, besides being linked by the main site. I can't imagine JKR would want to host anything he doesn't control, so we'd end up with another free-made forum...
Also we'd need to be permanently linked and possibly even advertised. It would be nice if we were considered a main part of the site, because if all we get is a blog mention then we'd be back where we started. But again, JKR might not want to have something he has no control over so closely attributed to his site, so I guess it's up to him.

| Yeah the tricky part really is that if I'm going to link to something as "part" of the website, I need to make sure it's up to code, so to speak. That makes it difficult since I'd have to help moderate things and such. That's really where the difficulty is, otherwise it wouldn't be an issue. | |

Do you mean tricky by coding one of those pop-up disclaimers or do you mean tricky as making sure the forum is following the rules? I honestly think we will be fine if eveybody from here has an elevated role in the forums, because if any problems arise, it would be from the new people. |

Would it? I mean, one of the BOARDS here has the F word in the title. Not even a post or a thread, a board.

| The only reason I'm cool with the swearing is because I know all our members, and none of them have a problem with it. We're not getting new members any time soon. If we were linked to the main site and have access to new members, I'd be totally behind a swearing filter. | |

| I say we all move over to my forums and I dedicate a part of my forum to Fred The Monkey.. I mean, I can set people to moderate just a certain section of my board, instead of all of it. But, I doubt you guys wouldn't like to move over to a growing community. (It's growing.. slowly.) Plus, there, it would get some attention to my website and the content there. But, at the same time, I'm pretty strict on people following the rules and cursing. (Not so much the rules, as I just copied and pasted the ones from here onto my board..) But hey, I'll go with whatever people do. | |

| The problem, I think, is content -- with JKR going to school again, and not having as much time to dedicate to cartoons, it's nigh-on impossible to draw in new fans, so there's really not going to be new forum members. With no new members, it's just the last few stragglers of the old crowd hanging around, going over the same old, same old. That's a natural part of a forum life cycle, mind, but without newbies to replace oldies who grow up and move on, the community eventually just... Dissolves. "Permanent" members of any Internet community are few and far between, so new blood is essential to keeping a forum alive. Lack of new content means lack of new fans means lack of new people willing to join in discussions, and there's not a lot you can do about it.
Having said that, feel free to try whatever you guys want to. This place was always meant to be a temporary fix for when the Fred forums themselves were on extended hiatus, and I guess it kind of shows. And I don't know that I've the time or the energy to bother mending it myself, so it's really up to you all what you want to do. I may/may not drift here and there, and it'd be cool if it actually worked and drew in some new life. I'll be here to help, if there's anything I can contribute, though I don't know that I'll be around much.
Also, Jordo: I'm fine with you taking my list of rules... But I should let you know that that "computer hacker" article was actually a joke piece written yonks ago when the tubes were young, making fun of meddlesome yet ignorant parents.

JKR is no longer going to school actually, he is dedicating his time to cartoons and starting his own studio. And there is plenty of new blood hanging around FtM. |

Thank you. I was hoping you wouldn't mind.. As for the old article, I only did that because I have seen two people post that on facebook this month telling other people to listen to it. I figure something had to be said about it.. Plus, I have to put something on my website eventually.. - Papytendo the Tea Girl wrote:

| Dizzy is cool with whatever as long as he still gets to talk about League of Legends.
Though having some new people would fantastic. Maybe we'll find a member who will stick for once.

| I figure this new forum will get done sometime during the month. And I'm thinking everyone from this forum will get custom titles. |

| Awwww yea.
Couple of questions. And by that I mean 2 questions.
1) Is the forum going to be on an actual website, paid for by some incredibly generous member? Or another forum done through a free hosting service?
2) We get to choose our custom titles right? Because I have to think about mine.

Granted I've been too lazy to come up with one for awhile.. mine is now hilariously outdated considering the series is now you know.. cancelled. And I'm down for a new forum. I'll probably stay there more than I do here, where the problem is not enough posting XD The old Cubetoons used to be active enough that you refresh and there would be a new post. I don't think we'll ever quite go back to that, but it would be nice to get a few new members.

Any takers? |
