It's pretty cool stuff, if done properly. Much like the Wii, WATCHING people play is stupid and pointless. This is a thing you have to try for yourself. I haven't yet, nor does any of the software seem interesting to me, but the potential is huge.
Q wants one, but it will be a cold day in heck before I let her spend that much money on something I know she'll use MAYBE twice before it sits collecting dust. Might as well hold those funds for a 3DS next year, which she'd actually play daily.

The Kinect itself is an amazing piece of technology. You wouldn't really know if you looked at what Microsoft has done with it. But thanks to hackers, we can. For example, the Kinect actually captures 3D video, but only one side. So all one would have to do is pair two together and bingo, full 3D video capture. I guess microsoft thought it would be cooler to use this technology to pet virtual animals instead.

All it is is infra red, same with the Wii, only the remote is the kinect bar and there's more beams of light. The stuff in kinect is worth about 51 dollars to assemble (which I think warrants a 150 price tag) but you can expect the price to go down to 100 after a while I'd say.

Yeah, well, call me when it hits 50 bucks. I'm tired of paying for add-ons. Rock Band/GH sucked probably half a grand out of us, and it pissed me off.

The Kinect parts are worth 51 dollars. It will NEVER hit that price in retail, because of manufacturing costs, and retail prices. It's basic economics. And I have no idea how you managed to spend half a grand on Rock Band, but really it's pretty much down to wise management of costs.

The big thing that makes me worried is that there is no talk at all about what games there are in the second wave for this in the future.
None.

I can't understand why exactly everyone is going nuts over it, I used it for a bit and got no where.
Cool piece of technology, but the feel of it just feels wrong and usually can get frustrating.
Not to mention every 360 fanboy at my school is being really stupid about it.

Manufacturing costs go down as tech ages. Also failed tech is sold at a loss if necessary because no one wants it. The Virtual Boy didn't cost ten bucks to make, but that's what they sold it for by the end.
As for Rock Band, you've got $150 on the set, then $100 on the GH set, then all the games (like a dozen, I swear) which adds up quickly. I'd wager most people have spent nearly that much on the music game stuff, you just don't see it all at once because Rock Band Green Day comes out a few months after Guitar Hero Cowbell Solo.

Tech is sold at a loss for the retailers, not the manufacturers. If the manufacturers were selling it at a loss, there'd be absolutely no point in selling it in the first place.
Any why would you buy each and every Rock Band AND Guitar Hero game that comes out? If anything, you should really just stick to the one, and get the ones you want. Like don't get Green Day Rock Band if you don't like Green Day, obviously.

Well I'M not a big fan of any of the RB/GH games, personally. But Q is addicted to all of them. Welcome to being married and compromises.
I can't really complain, since I spend a tremendous amount on animation books and supplies, but I'm just saying, I'd rather not have any more plastic video game add-ons junking up the living room especially really expensive ones that don't get used enough to warrant their price tags. Likewise, she stops me from taking every paycheck we get to eBay and buying Disney Trading Pins.
