Chat it up in real time.

That's right, I've taken the liberty to set up an IRC channel for cubetoons. But what is an IRC channel?

Basically it's a live chat room. Think of it as Day chat but with more people saying more things and easier to keep a conversation going.

Now, we are short on operators at the moment so new operators will be accepted as long as they have some amount of knowledge on IRC channels.

So let's start with how to connect.

1. Get yourself an IRC client (I recommend the Firefox addon "ChatZilla", but there are many web based clients that work too).

2. Open it up and type in "/server irc.badnik.net" (badnik.net seems to be a great server so far, we'll stick with that for the moment.

3. Type in "/join #CT" (#CT is the name of the channel)


Next, some base rules.

1. No spamming or constant name changing. Kicks will be given on an operators judgement on this, but you should know better. What wouldn't fly on the forum here probably won't be tolerated on the IRC chat.

2. Bot and ban. You bring a bot on our fine channel and I'll ban you so hard you'll forget how to spell IRC. Even if it's a friendly bot, I don't care. No bots.

3. If you are having a problem with an operator. PM me and I'll see what I can do. We don't keep logs as of yet so judgment will be used.

4. PG-13, mind your language and actions. no porn, no sexytime, watch your language, etc.

5. Be nice. No flaming, trolling, bashing, insulting, or just plain rudeness.

6. Common sense, 'nuff said.


Now for some basic commands.

To change your nickname use "/nick newname" (newname being your new nickname).
To leave use "/quit reason" (Reason is where you can put a reason if you want to have one).

I set you up as auto op and myself too, so I'm awesome.

never mind that, but its rather boring when no one is on it apart from yourself.

I was never a big fan of Chat channels for a forum. Isn't a forum just basically a really, really slow chat room? :P

Of course, if a forum is huge enough (like IGN) it makes a lot of sense to do. I dunno.

I'm too lazy to press F5, so instead we worked our buttcheeks into an irc channel, believe me it's meanier than it looks like.

I like to think of it as a place where you can post more often with less problems. Plus it's alot more fun than sitting there and waiting for a reply in day chat...

Look, I think it's a much better idea to just stick with the forum, that way:
You won't miss a conversation in Day Chat.
I don't want you driving all the forum members to your IRC channel, otherwise there's no point of having a CT forum, it'll just be a chatroom then!

Look, the Day Chat attracts a lot of posts, but when people go to Day Chat, they see another topic in another board and are interested in posting there.
Please, just stick with the forum, and NO loving IRC!

Well, it's just pointless for a forum, of all things.
I'd understand for a website, but this is a forum at the moment.

I haven't set up any logs or anything, so now. However I trust the fine people here to act responsibly.

By the way, the channel is always open and I think we have everything sorted out now. Come and visit us (or usually just me and a guy named Eggy who helped me set it up).

Come on people, give the IRC a chance. It ruins the point of having it if no one is going on.

I'm often on with eggy, I do other things meanwhile and if in 2 hours nobody has logged in, I leave.
